Yorktown High School junior midfielder Emily Stafford recently was chosen as the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 Player of the Year in girls field hockey.
Stafford helped Yorktown win the 2021 Class 6 state championship for the first time this fall, as the Patriots finished 21-1, winning their final 16 matches. Stafford was one of Yorktown’s leading scorers. She scored the only goal on the state final, and she had two goals in Yorktown’s state semifinal win.
Also making first-team all-state from Yorktown. along with Stafford. were senior defender Lily Randles, senior at-large player Caroline Brickley and sophomore forward Alexis Williams.
Yorktown head coach Olivia Shipley was chosen as the Class 6 state Coach of the Year in her first season was the team’s head coach.
