The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and City of Fairfax Fire Department on Feb. 2 at 5:15 a.m. dispatched units to a reported house fire in the 2600 block of Lake Ridge Court in Oakton.
Arriving units found fire in the basement of the one-story, single-family home and rapidly extinguished the blaze. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported, officials said.
Two occupants were home at the time of the fire. One occupant woke to the sound of the smoke alarm and, upon investigation, discovered smoke in the basement. The occupants called 911 and evacuated the home.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature and started in the basement. The fire, which led to about $25,000 worth of damage, was caused an electrical event involving overhead lighting, officials said.
The fire displaced two occupants, who declined assistance offered by the Red Cross.
