The W-L High School Education Foundation has awarded 12 scholarships to members of the Washington-Liberty High School Class of 2021.
The $1,500 scholarships will support students with college expenses in their freshman year.
Students receiving scholarships, and the institutions of higher education to which they are attending, include:
Monira Akey, Virginia Commonwealth University; Najla Ali, Virginia Tech; Rose Galdamez, Marymount University; Jennifer Lopez-Gonzales, Virginia Tech; Jhoan Loza Gonzales, University of Maryland; Madeleine McLean, University of Michigan; Shea Messman, University of Virginia; Abdellah Mouslik, George Washington University; Kimberley Peche, Virginia Commonwealth University; Zahra Qureshi, George Mason University; Angelica Vasquez-Juarez, University of Virginia; and Fatima Villalobos Gonzalez, Northern Virginia Community College.
The competitive scholarships are based on academics, essays, activities, educational goals and financial need. The scholarships are funded by donations from alumni, parents, staff and community. Students may seek $1,000 renewals for the next three years.
