With Virginia congressional and legislative redistricting now in the rear-view mirror, the focus is on making sure the electorate understands the changes.

“Every voter in the commonwealth will be getting a notice of their new districts and polling place,” county Registrar Gretchen Reinemeyer told Electoral Board members on Sept. 15 as logistics for the upcoming election were discussed.

Those postcard mailings should be in mailboxes by the end of the month.
For Arlington voters, there are minimal changes in 2022, since the entire county remains in the 8th Congressional District and both County Board and School Board races are conducted on an at-large basis. Some voters will see their precinct places change.

The bigger change will come in 2023, when Virginia voters will elect the 100 members of House of Delegates and 40 members of the state Senate – and all of those districts have been reconfigured and renumbered.

In Arlington, the current three state Senate districts will decline to two and the four House of Delegates districts will decline to three.
