Vienna to upgrade cruiser video with federal cash

Must Read

The Vienna Town Council on June 6 unanimously approved the spending of $128,600 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to replace and upgrade in-car video systems for Vienna Police Department patrol vehicles.

The town will ride a Sourcewell contract and begin a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises Inc., which will provide, install and maintain all the equipment, train officers on how to use it and store the videos recorded under the program.

The police department’s current camera system dates to 2014 and is nearing the end of its useful life, officials said. Axon also is the vendor for the department’s body-worn-camera program, which will begin this summer following the Council’s approval in February. The in-car video system will have seamless interoperability with the body-worn cameras, officials said.
