A crisis hotline alerted Vienna police on Feb. 21 at 8:21 p.m. that a caller was stating he had shot himself in the area of the 500 block of Kingsley Road, SW.
While officers were responding, the hotline received additional information that the person had moved to an abandoned home in the 900 block of Olympian Circle, SW.
Officers searched both locations, could not locate any injured person and found nothing suspicious. Police determined the call was a false report.
At 9:31 p.m. that day, the hotline received additional information from a person claiming he had shot himself in the area of the 500 block of Kingsley Road, S.W. As officers searched the area, they observed a juvenile watching them from her home, close to where the calls were initiated.
The girl’s father provided the officers with her phone, which showed she was the one placing the calls, police said. Officers interviewed the girl about the incidents, and upon her return to the residence, she became upset and ran away.
After police could not locate her, authorities entered her name into the state’s database as a missing juvenile.
At approximately 3:13 a.m. the following morning, the juvenile’s father reported that his daughter had returned home safely. Vienna police continue to investigate this case.
