A vehicle being driven northbound on Nutley Street, S.W., at a high rate of speed on Aug. 27 at 8:09 a.m. struck a second vehicle that was turning onto Tapawingo Road, S.W., Vienna police said.

The striking vehicle’s driver fled the scene of the accident and abandoned his vehicle on Hillcrest Drive. Rescue personnel transported the struck vehicle’s driver to an area hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

On Sept. 15, after completing their investigation, officers obtained two warrants charging the striking vehicle’s driver with felony hit-and-run and driving while intoxicated.

With the assistance of Fairfax County police, Vienna police officers went to the driver’s residence and arrested the 25-year-old Vienna man. Police transported the suspect to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with the warrants.
