Vienna Council extends, renews bunch of contracts

Summer is a time for renewal – of municipal contracts, that is.

The Vienna Town Council approved nearly $3.5 million worth of renewed contracts June 6 as part of the consent agenda, i.e., with no debate beforehand. The vote was 5-0, as Mayor Linda Colbert and Council member Ed Somers were vacationing.

Council members renewed 16 contracts worth $1,895,000 overall that were bid competitively and issued by other jurisdictions. Those items included:

• A $125,000 contract with Republic Services for recycling.
• A $75,000 contract with Chantilly Crushed Stone for gravel, sand and crushed stone.
• A $55,000 contract with Cintas Corp. for uniform rental.
• A $250,000 contract with Ferguson for pipe and fittings.
• A $150,000 contract with Morton Salt/Eastern Salt for de-icing salt.
• A $140,000 contact with Pinpoint Underground for utility markings.
• A $50,000 contract with H.D. Supply (Core & Main) for water meters.
• A $400,000 contract with Quarles for bulk fuel.
• A $30,000 contract with S. Freedman & Sons for janitorial supplies.
• A $50,000 contract with Long Fence for fence installation and repairs.
• A $90,000 contract with Savera for temporary-employment services.
• A $60,000 contract with Potomac Truck Center for truck repairs and parts.
• A $50,000 contract with R.E. Lee Electric Co. for traffic-signal installation.
• A $75,000 contract with Service Tire Truck Center for tires.
• A $50,000 contract with TAPCO (Traffic & Parking Control Co.) for parking and traffic control.
• A $250,000 contract with Tri-State for sewer lining.
The Council also renewed $1.58 million worth of one-year contracts with six vendors, including:
• A $350,000 contract with Arthur Construction for milling, overlay and traffic marking.
• A $530,000 contract with Crown Construction for provision and installation of water mains.
• A $50,000 contract with Midlantic Marking for pavement marking.
• A $650,000 contract with U.S. Concrete for small-task concrete work.
• A $50,000 contract with Whitman, Requardt & Associates for on-call engineering-services projects.
• A $70,000 contract with Wood Environmental for on-call environmental professional services.
