Upton Hill Park Stewards bestows accolades

NOVA Parks (the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority) on Oct. 15 presented several awards to those who had shown leadership in the Upton Hill Park Stewards’ Black and Latin/Hispanic Birder & Naturalist Series.

Award recipients included:

• Jill Barker, an Upton Hill Steward from Arlington Regional Master Naturalists.

• Joan Haffey of the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia.

• Musa Murawih of the Audubon Society of Northern Virginia.

• Melody Starya Mobley, a forester.

• Yolanda Villacampa, a local naturalist with Arlington Regional Master Naturalists.

• Gabrielle Cantor of the Arlington NAACP.

Upton Hill Park Stewards – a partnership between NOVA Parks, Arlington Regional Master Naturalists, Arlington Chapter of the NAACP and Audubon Society of Northern Virginia – was formed to create safe spaces for individuals in underrrepresented groups that enjoy nature.

The organization since October 2020 has organized birding hikes at Upton Hill Regional Park.
