Washington-Liberty High School’s Yasmeen Tinsley, Yorktown High’s Victorie Klepetkova and Wakefield High’s Lukai Hatcher were the three event winners from Arlington at the 6D North Region girls and boys indoor track and field championships.
The meet was held over multiple days at Chantilly High School, with most of the events taking place outdoors because of the pandemic. Some of the jumps were held inside the school gym.
Tinsley won the girls 55-meter hurdles in 8.58 seconds and the 300 in 41.26 to highlight her meet. She also placed third in the 55 dash and high jump and was 10th in the long jump.
Tinsley helped the W-L girls finish second with 65 points. South Lakes won with 81.
Klepetkova won the girls high jump at 5-foot, 3-inches. She also was fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump.
Hatcher, a standout boys basketball player for Wakefield, won the boys high jump at 5-foot, 8-inches.
Hatcher also plays football, which has a February start this season.
Finishing second in the region were Yorktown’s Alma de Miguel Evuna Eki In the girls 55 dash (she was sixth in the 300), Washington-Liberty’s Anna Rupert in the girls 500, W-L’s Ally Obenberger in the 1,600, Wakefield’s Justin Delgado in boys pole vault, Wakefield’s Josue Florian-Grant in the boys shot put, Yorktown’s Jackson Birdseye in the boys 55 dash and Yorktown’s Owen McArdle in the boys 3,200. Rupert also finished fourth in the 300, Obenberger was seventh In the 1,000 and McArdle was third in the 1,600.
What is significant about Delgado’s high finish is pole vaulting is the event only became a varsity sport for Arlington schools this school year. He also placed high in the National District meet prior to the region. In addition, Delgado was seventh in the boys 55 hurdles at the region.
Third was W-L’s Bilguun Soronzonbold in the boys 55 hurdles and W-L’s Rachel Mulvaney in the girls 1,600. Soronzonbold also was sixth in the boys 500 and sixth In the triple jump.
Fourth were W-L’s Rachel Mulvaney in the girls 3,200 and Da’Maya Johnson in the girls shot.
Finishing fifth were Wakefield’s William Madden in the boys shot, Wakefield’s Nadim Abdu in the 1,000, W-L’s Kian Thomasbeer in the boys 55 dash and Yorktown’s Lahlan Stevens in the boys 3,200.
Thomasbeer also was eighth in the triple jump and 10th in the long jump and Soronzonbold sixth in the triple jump.
Yorktown’s Lucas Keith was sixth in the 1,600 and his teammate Dominic Lowe was sixth in the long jump.
