Suspect caught before hopping a bus, hit with charges

On March 6 at 6:41 p.m., Arlington police were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Hayes Street for a report of a disorderly subject inside a business.

Police determined that an employee confronted the suspect after observing him enter the store for a second time and conceal merchandise. A struggle ensued and the suspect threatened the employee as he fled the scene.

According to police, the victim was able to point out the suspect when he was boarding a bus. A search of the suspect uncovered narcotics, police said.

The suspect – 44-year-old Arvid Thomas of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of justice. He also was served with two outstanding warrants from Fairfax County, and was held without bond.
