Adie Selassie of Arlington, a senior at Sidwell Friends School, was the only Virginian to be named a 2021 Calvin Coolidge Presidential Scholar.
The program, overseen by the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation, is a merit-based competition that provides full tuition, room, board, books and expenses for four years at a college of the student’s choice. For information, see the Website at https://coolidgescholars.org.
For her achievement, Selassie was honored Sept. 18 by the Arlington County Board.
Selassie, the daughter of Yodit Belew and Brook Selassie, has founded and led two non-profit organizations, is co-chair of the Drugs & Alcohol Prevention Committee of the Arlington County government’s Teen Network Board, and has authored two books (“Solar Gratitude” and “Your Growing Brain.”) She also was named a National Merit Semifinalist, and competes on her school’s cross-country and track teams.
