A unique doubleheader in girls and boys high-school basketball is scheduled tonight in Arlington between the host and private-school Bishop O’Connell Knights against the public-school Madison Warhawks of Vienna.
The teams often don’t meet, unless in holiday or tipoff tournaments, mainly because private and public teams don’t play much.
There also is a connection between the schools, because a lot of Vienna students over the years have and still do attend O’Connell, and have been big contributors in the school’s various sports teams. Plus, O’Connell boys coach, Joe Wootten, and girls coach, Aggie McCormick-Dix, each live in Vienna, and the schools aren’t that far apart.
Teams from the schools have met in other sports over the years, like in girls softball, drawing big crowds.
Tonight’s twinbill will likely draw good crowds as well.
The girls game tips off at 5:15 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Should be entertaining action.
We’ll see what happens.
