Sports Notebook: Two fast swim and dive seasons

Must Read

That went fast, only five weeks.

With the final meets of the diving season in the Northern Virginia Swimming League taking place Tuesday night, July 19, that competition concluded the short regular season for the diving and swimming teams in the summer league. The final regular-season swimming meets were Saturday, July 16.

In just those five short weeks, two diving teams from the Sun Gazette’s cover area – the Oakton Otters in Division I and Highlands in Division IV – won championships, each with 5-0 records.

Local swimming teams enjoyed much more success, with five local squads swinning division titles, combining for a 24-1 record  – Chesterbrook in Division 1, McLean  in Division 2, Cardinal Hill in Division 4, Lakevale Estates in Division 7 and Hunter Mill in Division 8. Two more finished second.

Was all of that the most combined success the local swim and dive teams have enjoyed in league history? No. Actually, the success rate is about the same or better every year.
