The two-time defending Class 6 state champion Madison Warhawks certainly can’t be accused of not playing a difficult schedule this season in girls high-school basketball.
As of today, the team has an 11-2 overall record and is 3-0 in the Concorde District.
In non-district games against private-school teams, Madison has played perennial powers Georgetown Visitation and Paul VI Catholic, in addition to regarded opponents Bishop O’Connell and Elizabeth Seton. The Warhawks’ two losses were against Visitation and Paul VI, two of the top-ranked teams in the metro area.
Madison also played and defeated perennial top public-school power West Springfield. Other formidable public-school teams the Warhawks have topped are 2021 Class 6 state runner-up Osbourn Park, former region champion Marshall and the Oakton Cougars (undefeated at the time), another yearly top team that has won scads of past championships, including region and state crowns.
In a Jan. 22 contest, Madison hosts 2021 Class 6 state semifinalist West Potomac.
So a tough schedule for sure.
