The top seeds in the girls and boys Liberty District high-school basketball tournaments have opportunities for significant achievements tonight when they host the championship games.
On the girls side, the Yorktown Patriots have never won a district tourney in program history.
On the boys, the Washington-Liberty Generals last claimed a district hoop tournament quite a while back, in 2001. Current W-L head coach Bobby Dobson coached that team back then.
Accomplishing those championship tasks will be difficult. Yorktown hosts the third-seeded McLean Highlanders in the Liberty girls final, a team it defeated twice during the regular season, but by close scores.
Washington-Liberty entertains the second-seeded Marshall Statesmen. Those teams split two regular-season contests.
Should be good stuff.
We’ll see what happens.
