Sports Notebook: Tipping it off

Must Read

Unlike last season when the high-school basketball schedule was eased into because of so many COVID restrictions and a limited amount of games for teams, not now.

The 2021-22 campaign begins full blast next week with opening games for all girls and boys varsity public and private-school teams and various girls and boys tip-off tournaments and boys and girls doubleheaders.

In girls basketball this week, the two-time defending Class 6 state champion Madison Warhawks tip off with a game Tuesday night, Nov. 30 against the Marshall Statesmen, then play Dec. 3 and 4 played in a tournament at Paul VI Catholic school.

Private school teams had their seasons canceled last season, but not now. They all begin this week, with the Potomac School and Flint Hill hosting girls and boys tip-off events.

Bishop O’Connell private-school teams open next weekend as well.

Check all the school athletic Web sites for full basketball schedules in opening days and throughout the season. There is a lot to read.
