When last week began, there were nine high-school basketball teams from the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas playing in the public and private-school state tournaments.
Now, after this past weekend’s playoff action, there is only one team left still alive and playing – the Madison Warhawks in girls basketball. And that’s no surprise and is predictable.
The two-time defending champion Warhawks have reached the semifinals of the Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state tourney. Madison began the season as a favorite, if not the heavy favorite, to significantly challenge to win a third straight state crown.
Madison needs to win two more games to win its fifth straight title. It’s very possible that will happen.
Se we’ll see what happens.
