Sports Notebook: Teaching moment

They weren’t watching real video games like teenagers regularly do on their phones and computer devices.

But Madison High School football players certainly were sitting and watching videos from the game the team was currently playing the night of Nov. 19 against the South Lakes Seahawks. After each offensive or defensive series, when those particular Madison players would return to the sideline, they would sit on a crowded bench for a few seconds and watch a big T.V. screen while a coach stood near the screen and gave pointers and instructions about plays that were being shown.

That was repeated throughout the 6D North Region tournament semifinal playoff game, which Madison won 48-0.

Madison and other high-school football teams have held such sideline video technology gatherings during games for a few seasons now. The teams believe such sessions are valuable and immediate teaching moments.
