The popular swimming season isn’t the only outdoor water sport during the summer campaign. Girls and boys diving competition at neighborhood pools also is popular.
Meets for dive teams in the Northern Virginia Swimming League are held at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, weather permitting, of course. The meets are completed in about 2 hours, maybe quicker depending on the number of divers.
Meets include four different age divisions for both girls and boys, starting with the youngest freshman level and concluding with the older senior circuit. Many of the divers are very good.
Depending on the pools, some portions of the water remain open for their membership to use during dive meets, with those swimming asked to keep quiet and not be quite as active as usual when the competition is ongoing.
The regular season for NVSL dive teams ends July 19 – quick campaign.
There are eight six-team divisions of pools in the NVSL diving league, for a total of 48 teams total.
