There was a strong showing by local athletes from the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas at this year’s Virginia High School League Class 6 girls and boys indoor state track and field championship meets.
In all, four individual athletes won state titles and one girls relay team won another. That’s five state championships in total, and is very, very good.
Many seasons the competition ends with no local state titles won.
There will be stories upcoming on this Website in the next hours and days with details about all five state championships.
While waiting, here is a list of those state champs.
* Langley High School relay (girls 4×800).
* McLean High School’s Xavier Jemison (boys 1,000) and Thais Rolly (girls 3,200).
Yorktown High School’s Owen McArdle (boys 3,200) and Anna Corcoran (girls 1,600).
Well done.
