Take away two outcomes that were different, the other four opening high-school games football of the new season among teams in the Sun Gazette’s coverage area were deja vu all over again.
The same outcomes this season had the Oakton Cougars routing the Lewis Lancers, 39-0, the Madison Warhawks losing to Stone Bridge, 17-16, the Wakefield Warriors falling to Fairfax, 52-14, and the McLean Highlanders falling to West Potomac, 52-14.
A year ago, Oakton won 37-0 over less, Wakefield lost 19-14 to Fairfax, West Potomac blanked McLean, 30-0, and Stone Bridge shut out Madison, 20-0. The scores were different but the outcomes the same.
The different outcomes this year had the Washington-Liberty Generals defeating the Marshall Statesmen, 27-7, and the Langley Saxons downing the Yorktown Patriots, 34-28. Last fall Marshall and Yorktown won those games.
So there was some difference this fall, but not much.
