Sports Notebook: So much to discuss

Must Read

There is always a lot to talk about during any football game by all involved.

However, during those initial contests of seasons, it seems there is even more for all to discuss. Just watch one of those games, especially on the high school or youth level.

There are more timeouts called for the coaches to talk to and teach the specifics to players and units.

The game officials talk much among themselves with what seem endless huddles to figure out the many penalties called, or the rules of the game, and sometimes not agreeing. Those same officials are often also talking and explaining to coaches more than usual during those early-season outings.

Coaches and players often huddle more along the sidelines to re-explain strategies and assignments. Coaches also have more one-on-one discussions with players.

Even game announcers tend to talk more in early games, often explaining everything.

All of that talking leads to constant delays and breaks in the action, which is sooooo annoying.

But that’s early-season football. All that much-to-discuss begins to subside as seasons go on. At least that’s the hope.
