For the longtime organization called the Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators and Coaches Association – or more familiarly known as NVADACA – its big annual event is scheduled the morning of May 24.
Beginning at 9:15 a.m. that Tuesday at Springfield Golf and Country Club, NVADACA will hold its scholarship breakfast. That’s when multiple seniors from public-school high schools in Northern Virginia will receive college scholarships.
The organization has been providing scholarships to such seniors since 1980, with one awarded that year. In 2021, there were 20 scholarships of $4,000 each awarded, with 26 awarded in 2020.
Since that first year in 1980, some $1 million dollars in scholarships have been awarded by NVADACA.
One of the purposes of the organization is to assist students through the awarding of scholarships.
For years, NVADACA once put together and published fantastic region-tournament basketball and football programs that included rosters of each team, photos, statistics and other helpful information. The programs were one of NVADACA’s biggest fund-raisers, going toward the scholarships. Plus, they were big-time keepers as a tournament memento.
The organization did away with publishing the programs years ago when the region setups unfortunately were changed and divided so much, making the task of putting the programs together much more difficult and involved. An annual golf tournament is now NVADACA’s biggest scholarship fund-raiser, along with donations.
New members are encouraged to join NVADACA and help with the scholarship cause. For details, see the Website at: www. NVADACA.org.
