Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago, certainly seems that way, that the postponed and condensed 2020-21 high-school football season ended for local public-school teams?
That’s right, April 24 was the final playoff game for a local team, with the Madison Warhawks losing in the state semifinals that Saturday afternoon.
On that day, a few commented that we will be right back at football in just a few weeks. That’s pretty much the truth. Practice begins for area teams in early August, with the regular season for many teams starting Aug. 27.
So that’s about three months without football, from the end of the last season in late April to the start of August practices. That’s crazy and quick. Some players who suffered injuries might not even be healed yet and ready to play this fall.
The start of the 2020 season was delayed until February because of the pandemic.
Oh well. Ready or not, high-school football will be back again real soon, and we’ll see what happens.
