That went fast. Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 12, brought the end to one high-school sports season already for public schools in Virginia.
The girls and boys co-ed golf campaigns concluded with the playing of the Virginia High School League Class 6 state tournament in Williamsburg. In comparison, high-school football teams have barely passed the halfway point of their schedules.
But golf is finished. Why so quickly?
The golf season begins much sooner than other fall high-school sports, basically at the end of July. Teams almost immediately begin playing in multiple tournaments, which often end by the start of school. Then teams play regular-season dual matches, followed by postseason competitions, which just ended with the state tourneys.
So the outdoor weather is still very nice, the grass remains green, but one season has already finished with much good forecasts still ahead.
Again, that sure went fast.
