Back on a humid and eventually stormy Aug. 27 Friday night in Northern Virginia, the 2021 high-school football regular season began across the region.
Rain and storms that night ended some contests early, and postponed the completions of others until the next day or night. That certainly was an eventful beginning to the 2021 slate, which back then it seemed the regular season would take forever.
Not the case. The schedule actually seemed to go very fast. The 11-week regular-season campaign (most teams had a one-week bye) ended the weekend of Nov. 4 and 5, with first-round playoff action held this past weekend.
Take away that opening weekend of Aug. 27, and the weather was quite outstanding, so far, for the football season. Not too much rain and wet, so can’t complain about the elements.
It was a fun regular season, with many games not lasting so dreadfully long as in recent seasons. That was a real good thing for sure.
