The public-school teams had their turns last week. Now this weekend it’s the turn for the three private high-school varsity football teams in the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas to open the 2022 campaigns.
The Potomac School Panthers start first, on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. on the road against Norfolk Academy. The team plans to leave the McLean campus to make that trip at 10 a.m., hoping to beat expected heavy Labor Day weekend traffic. Good luck.
Potomac School coach C.J. Remmo said he’s more stressed about potential traffic and traveling issues than the first game and all the issues that presents.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, Arlington’s Bishop O’Connell Knights don’t have to travel anywhere. They kick off their season at home at noon against the St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Saints of Alexandria.
Same with the Flint Hill Huskies of Oakton. They don’t travel either, opening at home Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. against Woodberry Forest.
All three of those games could go either way.
We’ll see what happens.
