So how will the girls high-school swimming public-school circuit evolve this season with former Yorktown High School standout Torri Huske now graduated and swimming in college and no longer around to dominate the prep circuit?
Huske led Yorktown to a state swim and dive championship last winter, then went on to swim in the Summer Olympics and win a medal. Huske never lost an individual high-school race and was a huge point scorer for Yorktown.
Without her, will Yorktown still be a top district, region and state contender?
Same for the Madison High girls, who also graduated some top swimmers from last season’s region-championship team and third-place finisher in the state.
Will other teams emerge this season and overthrow Madison and Yorktown? Each team will be strong again, even without those top swimmers. The programs are sound and well developed.
Madison and Yorktown will continue developing during regular season meets. Then, when the postseason begins in late January, that will be when it’s determined if both will still be perennial powers.
The potential exists for that to be the case.
We’ll see what happens.
