The local high-school football region playoffs begins for some teams this coming week, and for others something called Plus 1 games will be played.
The playoff contests need no explanation. Here’s the deal with the Plus 1 action, which are not postseason events.
Basically, since teams only played six regular-season games because of the shortened pandemic campaign, a decision was made to allow a seventh, if wanted, for those squads that did not make the playoffs, and are called Plus 1 games.
No teams turned down another chance to play.
In those Plus 1 meetings, teams from the 6D Region are matched up with squads from the 6C Region that have similar records. For example, Yorktown from the 6D and T.C. Williams from the 6C each have 4-2 marks, so they will meet in a Plus 1 clash.
As of now, there won’t be any Plus 2 games. But we’ll see what happens.
