Sports Notebook: No break

Must Read

It’s spring break for Fairfax County Schools this week.

But for many of the local high-school varsity baseball and softball teams, there certainly isn’t any break. In fact, some teams are busier this week than regular weeks, playing as many as five games in four or five days at various tournaments or venues – some local and some on the road.

Multiple teams are in Myrtle Beach playing multiple games. The Madison High baseball team has five games scheduled in Charleston, S.C.

For Madison and other teams, both local and on the road, games are scheduled through Friday. For teams out of town, then there is the 7-to 9-hour travel-time home, maybe not occurring until Saturday.

Then spring break is over on Monday, when classes resume.

But that’s a typical non spring break anymore for many high-school baseball and softball players.
