Now that the Super Bowl is over, it’s time to move on to the next big single-sport national sporting event. That would be the Sunday, Feb. 20 Daytona 500 NASCAR race, the annual event that kicks off that sport’s season.
Can’t wait.
If it’s the Daytona 500, that normally means baseball spring training is right behind, or has already begun. Not so this year, unfortunately, as Major League baseball and owners are in an unsettled labor dispute. That must be ended before the season can begin.
And that stinks. Who knows how long the disagreement will last. Those things tend to take a bit, history suggests. Hope not, but opening day could even be pushed back.
So if baseball spring training doesn’t begin soon, then college basketball’s March Madness would be the next big national sporting event.
We’ll see what happens.
