One of the best aspects about Oakton High School’s renovated gymnasium is new bleachers have been added behind each basket, an ideal spot for student sections to gather and cheer.
There also are still the bleachers along each side, but the new seating was added when more space became available behind the baskets as the size of the building was enlarged. So it made sense to have additional bleachers.
Other area high-schools have added such seating during renovations over the years, like at Wakefield and Washington-Liberty in Arlington and Herndon, Lake Braddock and West Springfield in Fairfax County.
Students do tend to gather in those spots, sometimes packing the bleachers full like at Washington-Liberty home boys games.
Hopefully, as other schools and gyms are renovated, such new bleachers will be added there, as well.
We’ll see what happens.
