There are a lot of neat things about the many summertime college baseball leagues and teams that have become popular, with many new organizations starting, in recent years. The games are entertaining, and usually fast moving, with quality competition.
Maybe what’s best about the baseball leagues are the creative names of so many of the teams.
For example.
The local Northern Virginia Collegiate League has the Bunt Cakes, Chili Dogs, Rough Riders, Yard Dogs, Hot Wings and Gators. All cool names. Many local players from Northern Virginia compete in the six-team league.
There are three rival college leagues in Myrtle Beach. One is the Beach Collegiate Baseball League. Many of the nicknames correspond with the local areas they represent along the Grand Strand, like the Windy Hills Whalers, Conway Cadets, Socastee Sharks, Surfside Sting Rays, Waccamaw Waves, Murrells Inlet Longboards, Little River Lagoons and the Carolina Forest Crawdads.
In a rival league there are the Grand Stand Gulls, Coastal Breeze and the Seaside Shades.
All are creative and fun names.
The baseball is worth watching as well.
