One local high-school team already has won a 6D North Region championship – the Langley Saxons golfers.
There could be a few more by week’s end in other sports from the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas, like in girls volleyball and field hockey, girls and boys cross country and football. Actually, there could be a clean sweep of local team champs for this postponed fall season because of the pandemic.
In football, the undefeated Madison Warhawks (7-0) are playing in the region title game April 16. The Oakton boys are the favorites to win the region cross country crown April 15, and Langley is in the running for the girls title.
Langley, Marshall and Washington-Liberty reached the semifinals of region volleyball, and all four region semifinalists in field hockey are from the Sun Gazette areas.
Will be interesting, and could be a chance all of those region champions will be local teams.
There were individual region co-champions from Langley in golf, and could be individual local winners in cross country, as well.
We’ll see what happens.
