It’s the time of the high-school footbal seasonl when many games now have multiple implications regarding league championships and playoff berths and seedings.
That’s the case tonight in three 7 p.m. contests involving local public-school teams from the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas.
In one such clash, the Washington-Liberty Generals (3-3, 3-0) host the Herndon Hornets (4-2, 2-0) in showdown in Arlington for first place in the Liberty District. The winner takes over the lead.
Meanwhile, the Yorktown Patriots (4-2, 1-2) are at home in Arlington, as well, and need to win to keep their fading Liberty District title hopes alive, as well as a potential region playoff berth. Yorktown hosts the Marshall Statesmen (1-5, 1-1).
In a third such outing, the Madison Warhawks (3-3, 1-0) host the Centreville Wildcats (5-1, 1-0) in a key Concorde District tilt. The teams are expected as two of the best in the league, so the winner will take an edge in winning that title.
We’ll see what happens tonight.
