It’s playoff time now in high-school basketball, which also is referred to as the “survive and advance” period of the season for participating teams.
Because so many girls and boys teams each advance from district to region competition on the public-school level, those first-round district games are a survive and advance situation. Lose, and the season is over. Win, and the team moves on in district play, and no matter what the results from there, still plays in the following week’s region competition.
So on Monday and Tuesday night of this week, many local teams survived and advanced. There were no upsets locally, as the top seeds all survived and advanced.
In next week’s region tourney, teams will have to survive a couple of games if they hope to advance to the Class 6 state tourney, in which only two teams move on.
We’ll see which move on at this survive and advance time of the season.
