Overall there are 102 summer swimming teams in the Northern Virginia Swimming League. Of those, seven are from McLean, and they are all in the top two divisions – four in Division 1 and three in Division 2.
So come Saturday mornings, when the weekly meets are held throughout the league, McLean always is a busy place for swimming competition. With seven teams, and all are located in close proximity, there are multiple home meets each Saturday morning during the five-week regular season.
This coming Saturday morning, July 16, is the final week of the regular season, and four McLean teams are hosting meets at 9 a.m. – the McLean Marlins, Chesterbrook Tiger Sharks, Langley Wildthings, and Hamlet Green Feet. McLean teams Tuckahoe and Highlands swim at Chesterbrook and Langley, respectively, in two all-McLean showdowns.
McLean’s Kent Gardens Dolphins will be the only away team on July 16, swimming on the road in Clifton. So six of the seven McLean teams will be competing in the same McLean neighborhoods, basically.
