One thing is certain. Multiple local high-school teams in the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas will win district-tournament championships by the end of Monday, May 23.
In fact, at least a handful of such teams already have won some of those titles, and that’s in addition to tennis champs. Tennis does not hold team tournaments.
A number of other local teams play in championship games, like McLean and Washington-Liberty in girls softball, W-L and Yorktown in boys soccer, and Yorktown and McLean in baseball, to list a few.
So there is an assurance of many more local champions right there. Plus, the Oakton Cougars are in the Concorde District baseball final, as are the Madison and Oakton boys in the soccer match.
It’s quite a successful time for local teams. Then, the region tournaments are next, and how many more local teams will win those titles?
We’ll see what happens.
