Sports Notebook: Hoop games

Must Read

For fans of girls and boys high-school basketball tournament playoff games and championship contests this past weekend and continuing this evening, the time was a hoops galore fest.

Such playoff tilts were held at venues throughout Northern Virginia and in Washington, D.C., as well. High-school gyms at South Lakes, Hayfield, Edison, Robinson, Flint Hill, the Potomac School and Georgetown Day schools were among those hosting such contests, with big crowds. Maybe about 70 percent of spectators attending some contests were wearing mask, and only loosely so.

Many of the games were tightly contested.

Locally, in the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas, the Madison Warhawks won a girls region championship, with the Washington-Liberty boys team finishing second in a region final.

Also, the Langley High girls were a region runner-up to Madison and the Potomac School girls played in a title contest.

There will be more state-tournament playoffs and some championship games this week.

We’ll see what happens in those.
