Sports Notebook: Homemade banners

Must Read

Some high-school sports teams were clever this spring season after winning significant tournament championships.

Instead of gathering for a team photo with the traditional banners provided, as most have always done after winning say a district, region or state-tournament crown, a couple of teams designed their own signs for the occasion, and in the team’s school colors nonetheless.

The Langley High School girls lacrosse team had such a homemade green and gold banner to display after the Saxons won a recent state championship.

In girls softball, the Washington-Liberty Generals also revealed their homemade banner after winning the 6D North Region Tournament.

It’s a bit brash to design such banners. What happens to the banners if the team doesn’t win a title? Can’t be used for finishing second, really.

The homemade banners were different and a welcome look from the ones we so often see after a team wins such a championships. Maybe the Langley and W-L teams have started a trend that will continue.

We’ll see what happens.
