Sports Notebook: Holiday baseball

Must Read

Those interested in watching some July 4 baseball on today’s holiday are in luck, but doing so early in the day is one option.

At 10 a.m. at Waters Field in Vienna, a non-district American Legion baseball game is on tap between host Vienna Post 180 and Leesburg Post 34. It’s a nine-inning contest, and the Waters Field concessions stand is supposed to be open.

The Northern Virginia Collegiate League has three games on tap today, two at 10 a.m. and another at 12:30 p.m. Those are seven-inning frames.

The 10 a.m. games pit the Chili Dogs against the Bunt Cakes at Madison High School in teams with 2-1 records, and the Yard Dogs against the Hot Wings at Westfield High.

At 12:45 p.m. at Madison, the Gators play the Rough Riders.

That’s four games to choose from, the way it should be for baseball on Independence Day.
