Now, maybe someplace inside Wakefield High School a district baseball championship banner can be displayed for the varsity team.
The 10-2 Warriors won their first league title in program history June 5 with a clinching 16-2 road victory over the Lewis Lancers. Wakefield and the Marshall Statesmen actually share the crown with the same 10-2 marks.
But a title is a title regardless. So a baseball banner at Wakefield can be included with the many other district crowns won by other teams, like in basketball, football and cross country.
And good for Wakefield head coach Mike Ruck, in his seventh season as the Warriors’ skipper. Since in charge, Ruck has brought competitiveness, class and respectability to the program. He receives much praise from his peers throughout the Northern Virginia baseball circle.
Now with a district championship to show for the efforts of Ruck and his players, hurry and hang that banner.
