What a great start for the Flint Hill School baseball team this spring and new head coach Mitch Mendler of the varsity high-school squad.
Through five games, the Huskies are undefeated at 5-0, including a come-from-behind 12-11 walkoff victory over the visiting Episcopal Maroon on March 22. Flint Hill went 3-0 during a spring-break trip to Myrtle Beach. That came after defeating St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in its season opener.
As head coach, Mendler took over for Tom Verbanic, a highly-successful head baseball and football coach during his tenure at the private school. Mendler is a Flint Hill alum, who played baseball under Verbanic not long ago.
It’s often a challenge with a lot of pressure and expectations for a young head coach to take over a successful and established program, like Mendler is now the big boss.
But at 5-0, so far so good. Nice start.
