They all won.
It doesn’t occur often, but this past weekend on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, all four high-school varsity football teams in Arlington won regular-season games – the Bishop O’Connell Knights, Wakefield Warriors, Washington-Liberty Generals and Yorktown Patriots. Four for four.
That had not happened previously this season, nor at all during the shortened and postponed 2020 COVID campaign.
All four won in week eight of the 2019 schedule, with that being the only occassion that fall. Four wins the same weekend didn’t occur at all in 2018, 2017, 2016 or 2015, the last before that coming in week three of 2014.
That was a good year in 2014. None of the teams had losing records, combining for a 26-18 mark and three squads making the playoffs – Wakefield, W-L and Yorktown.
So it’s rare indeed when the Arlington foursome win the same weekend. It won’t occur again this fall, because county teams either meet or have a bye the final three weeks.
Celebrate the rare accomplishment.
