The foul weather consisted of inches of steady rain, clouds, a bit of thunder and otherwise tons of gloom this past Friday and Saturday when there was never even a glimpse of sun that helps to produce pretty rainbows.
The wet conditions meant the postponements of so many high-school baseball and softball games, likely extending this week’s scheduled end of the regular season in various leagues a few more days. That will delay the start of the playoffs, originally scheduled to begin this coming Friday, May 13.
Maybe that’s not a bad thing. Teams of all types don’t much like playing on Friday the 13th, especially when seasons could come to an unlucky end on that day with an eliminating postseason loss.
Any baseball or softball games played took place on Sunday on fields with artificial surfaces. Even games played today on real grass and dirt fields will be in doubt, probably needing more sun and dry time to be ready for action.
When surfaces are ready to play, some teams could be playing games on multiple straight days.
We’ll see what happens.
