Sports Notebook: Finding some leftovers

Must Read

By hanging around until the end, then circling back through the scorer’s area after all parties had departed a recent high-school golf tournament, there were some items left behind.

There was a Nike golf ball on a table, an empty envelope on another with three unused scorecards, and a half dozen golf pencils were either left on the scorer’s table or had fallen to the ground.

The tournament was held at the Algonkian Regional Park golf course in Sterling, which provided the scorecards and pencils. But the golf pencils were from all over, as shown in the photo with this blog.

Three were from other Northern Virginia golf courses, one had no name, one was from Algonkian, and another from a winery.

So the golfers must have brought the other pencils with them to the scoring table where they took a seat to tabulate and report their final scores. Then they just left the pencils behind, for others to find and use, maybe.
