No surprise. A few games into the American Legion District 17 baseball season and the three teams with the best records are Vienna Post 180, Springfield Post 176 and defending tournament champion Arlington Post 139.
The other three teams have losing records.
For years, Vienna and Springfield have been district powers, with Arlington joining the mix off and on, but especially the last few seasons. Those three teams have combined to win most of the recent district-tourney titles, as well as finishing second.
And it looks that will be the case again this summer, once the regular season ends and district tournament begins around July 16.
Those three teams haven’t played a lot this season, as yet. Arlington and Vienna meet in a doubleheader on June 26. Vienna and Springfield have yet to play.
So we’ll see what happens in coming weeks. Best bet. One of those three will again emerge as district-tourney champs.
