Sun Gazette photographer Deb Kolt made a great observation after taking photos of the April 24 high-school football game between the host Madison Warhawks and South County Stallions in a Class 6 state semifinal playoff clash.
With many of the players no longer wearing COVID masks, at last there were expressions on their faces to capture in an image to go with the action.
In the photo with this blog, expression of joy can be seen when Madison runningback Alex Jreige scores a touchdown to his teammates’ delight, and his as well.
With the masks in past weeks, there were just those expressionless players, almost robot-like, in pictures. Not nearly as fun to see.
Expressions in sports are really what sports are all about. There are so many different types of sports expressions in all of our games and events. Is sports without those expressions, really sports?
Deb is so right. It’s so good to see them again.
