Sports Notebook: Decorating contest

Must Read

So why is there a Christmas scene photo with a sports blog?

Answer. Sometimes decorating outside for the holidays can be a big contest among neighbors, kind of like in sports.

On some streets, the game is which homeowner will be the first to decorate, whether it’s a single-family home, townhouse, an apartment or condo balcony, front door or whatever else.

Yes, there are some who take much pride and chest pumping in being the first to decorate, and become bothered if they are beaten to the punch.

There are unofficial but strict contest rules, though. Toss out and disqualify any Christmas decorations displayed before Thanksgiving, along with any decorations coming legitimately after the deadline that still have pumpkins somewhere visibly on display.

Orange pumpkins don’t go with green and red Christmas decorations.

So the contest action officially begins at midnight on Friday after turkey day has settled.

It’s all kind of fun to watch and see, who becomes first up, with no pumpkins.
